Thanksgiving Gratitude

Last weekend, I was strolling through Brownstone Brooklyn and happened upon an outdoor lounge act. A lovely woman wearing a blue wig was belting out Torch Songs from the top of her stoop to an audience of socially distanced elders in folding chairs. I learned that this gathering had been a weekly occurrence during the summer months and was meeting for the last time this season.

As we approach this winter COVID season, please remember the suffering of lonely seniors. All of my Geriatric Care clients are worried about the imminent time back in the house alone. Go the extra mile with your neighbors, distant relatives, or former mentors and colleagues. Take a minute to make a weekly call, sign up to be a "Telephone Friendly Visitor", become a pen pal or send some flowers. Just let folks know you are thinking of them. I plan to deliver a Thanksgiving meal to a former elderly colleague who lives nearby. If you need a suggestion please "message" me—I have loads of ideas.

Happy Thanksgiving. Sending gratitude to my whole community!
