Caring for the Caregiver

Today's note is an appreciation post for caregivers—the folks who provide beautiful and tireless care for our elders. In the last month, I've stepped in as a Geriatric Care Manager for two caregivers in my network who developed COVID-19. One of the elders had to be hospitalized— not because he was ill, but because there was no one healthy to take care of him.

Thankfully, everyone in my own little circle of care is recovering nicely. But this disease is serious and scary, and caregivers often neglect their own needs when caring for their elders. Please, please take care of yourself, practice consistent mask-wearing, avoid crowds and wash your hands. We can only take care of others if we fill our own cups, first.
