The Gift of Time

The aspect of my Geriatric Care Practice that I value most is the gift of time. The time to accomplish the important case management work—and also the time to be present and bear witness to the stories of elders.

Last week I listened to one of my clients share a childhood memory of The Great Ohio Flood of 1937. In Louisville Kentucky school was closed for a month, neighbors moved in with each other, food was dropped by airlift and parents traveled to work by rowboat. My elder shared such a story of community and resilience, something we all need today. I left inspired and uplifted.
